Chamakh my day,Arsene

ARSENE WENGER is stepping up his bid for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh.

But he faces a dogfight with Arsenal's bitter rivals Spurs. SunSport understands that Tottenham have stolen a march on Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool by matching Chamakh's wage demands of £55,000 a week NET.

The Frenchman is available on a Bosman from New Year's Day but would not be able to join any new club until the summer. Wenger desperately needs a target man with Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner out.

He could yet try to sign Chamakh from Bordeaux in January but would have to cough up a fee of around £5m.

A source close to the deal said: "Wenger has made it clear to Marouane and his agent he still very much wants to sign him.

"But Marouane doesn't want to go to war with Bordeaux again like he did in the summer when Arsenal didn't match their valuation. So the player prefers to sign a pre-contract and go in the summer."

Wenger is also waiting to pounce for highly-rated France hitman Jimmy Briand.

Rennes' hugely-gifted secondary striker Briand, who is also fancied by Marseille, is now running down his contract.

And given he is a near cert to make the World Cup, getting him for nothing will be a huge coup for the astute Wenger.

Wenger admits money means pressure

Arsene Wenger believes the money which has been pumped into football during his time at Arsenal has made the game "much more dramatic and tense".

The French manager has spent 13 years with the Gunners, achieving tremendous trophy success and developing many young players into superstars. They stand third in the Barclays Premier League this season, with a game in hand on second-placed , and another top-four finish appears a likelihood.

A fascinating tussle with fourth-placed Aston Villa awaits on Sunday, and Wenger said: "It is a game where we can strengthen our position in the league, so that's why we will be completely focused."

Asked what differences he has noticed in the Premier League during his time in England, Wenger told an arsenal.com webchat there have been both positive and negative changes.

"It has become a worldwide product and when I travel nowadays I see how popular this league has become and we shouldn't take it for granted in England," he said.

"Firstly it's a worldwide product, secondly the ownership has changed completely, the structure of the game has changed. And don't forget, for example, referees have become completely professional.

"The league has become much more professional, the pressure has become much bigger, financial input has become much bigger which means the quality of the games has become much better.

"All that has changed. In some ways for good, and some ways a bit more negatively because it's less relaxed. Everybody is a bit more tense.

"I felt 13 years ago a defeat was less dramatic than it is now, it's much more dramatic and tense.

"It is because of money and it is all about the Champions League now, being in the top four. A few years ago it was a bit more open and as soon as you are a bit out from what is expected of you now, it is a crisis."

My Colour Poem: Red

By Luke Murphy

Red is the colour blood,
An a sack
And an old, raggy sock.
There’s love and fun
But there was a gun,
Then it was the end for them.
There was anger and violence
All over the world.
Then it was time to say ‘bye bye’.

Our Poetry

What is Red?

By James McCarthy

Red is the colour of my bed
And a head too.
A flamingo reminds me of bingo,
An angry, red fire extinguisher.
A red Christmas bow.
A hard-working pencil or crayon,
Complimenting a copy.
A robin red breast sitting in a tree
Over a couple kissing
A lovely ladybird living on a leaf.
A juicy red apple.
This is red to me.

The Day We Won in Croke Park

By Evan Pierce

On Saturday, we had to meet at the school at 11:30 then we walked up the Croke Park.
When we got there, we ran down to the dressing room and saw a huge big hurley. When we got changed, we had to stand in the tunnel for ages, then we walked out to the pitch and warmed up.
When the match kicked off, we won the throw in and we got a goal and a few points but by the second half, we were drawing.
The game went into extra time and Nato scored a goal but soon after, the Brunners got a penalty.
I thought it was all over, but after a while in extra time, we managed a win thanks to Nato and Jake.
Phew!

The Match

By Jordan Sunner

When the match started, Evan got the ball and sprinted up to the half way line.
He took a shot. Then the other team digged it. They ran up and took a shot.
Soon, they scored and it was a nice goal.
So that made it 1-0.

Eventually, Nathan Barrett managed to score for the Larriers, making the score 1-1.
I was delighted.
Towards the end of the game, the teams were drawing, so the match had to go to extra time.
We were able to beat the opposition by two goals!
It was such an exciting day!

The Big Game

By Alex Byrne

One day in Old Trafford, United were playing against Liverpool.
In the first minute, Ryan Giggs scored top corner.
Eventually, Liverpool scored and Alex Fergusson was very annoyed.
Suddenly, Michael Owen came on in the forty-fourth minute and soon after he came on, he had his hat-trick and Alex Fergusson was jumping up and down with joy and only five minutes to go!!

Then Torres scored his hat-trick and Alex flipped – he was so angry his face was bright red.
The game went into penalties and Alex became really anxious.
Torres was taking his penalty and he shot a great ball.
VanderSar went top corner and it was a beautiful save.

Ryan Giggs took his penalty and because the keeper was confused by his angle, he managed to SCORE!

Alex said “We Won! We Won!” and the cup went to United.

Usmanov ups Gunners stake

Russia-based Alisher Usmanov's Red & White Holdings group have increased their stake in Arsenal to 26.07%.

American Stan Kroenke, however, remains the largest individual shareholder in the Barclays Premier League club, last month moving a small step closer to the takeover threshold when buying another 10 shares to move to 29.9%.

Under the strict financial rules of the City, were anyone to cross the 29.99% takeover threshold, they he would be obliged to make a formal offer for the remainder of the shares at the highest price paid for stock during the past 12 months.

However, shareholders would not be forced to sell, and so after the offer had been made, if the party were not able to reach 50%, then they could not return to make another takeover offer for 12 months, unless invited to do so by the company.

It has been suggested the continued investment by Kroenke - who is already an Arsenal director - is designed to fend off possible aggressive moves by Usmanov.

Lady Nina Bracewell-Smith, who left the board during December last year, could well hold the balance of power with her family's 15.9% stake - which if sold to either Kroenke or Usmanov would push them well past the takeover threshold.

While, as one of the largest shareholders in the club, Arsenal continue to have positive dialogue with Red & White Holdings, earlier this year the board turned down Usmanov's proposed rights issue to generate new cash, in favour of the status quo which sees the Emirates Stadium club remain self-financing.

Usmanov had argued the scheme would help to reduce both the long-term debt of some £400million, which is mainly associated with the new stadium, and also hand manager Arsene Wenger extra transfer funds.

In September, the Gunners' parent holding company revealed an increase in turnover to £313.3million and a record profit after tax of £35.2million from results for the year ending May 31.

Matthias Sammer: Arsenal Disrespect Champions League With 'Kindergarten' Team

Leonardo scores against arsenal
German legend Matthias Sammer has blasted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger over his decision to field an inexperienced side in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Olympiakos.

With the Gunners already assured of top spot and a place in the last 16, Wenger took the chance to give youngsters such as Kerrea Gilbert, Kyle Bartley, Jack Wilshere and Tom Cruise a taste of European football.

The visitors fell 1-0 in Athens, and although the result was meaningless to them, it allowed their hosts to vault into the knockout rounds at the expense of Standard Liege.

There has been considerable debate over the ethical ramifications of teams withholding their strongest XI in competitive play, and Sammer is among those who believe Arsenal are making a mockery of Europe's elite stage.

The 1996 European Footballer of the Year, now technical director of the DFB, said on Sky: "I'm disappointed about what Arsene Wenger did.

"It's the Champions League, one of the most important competitions worldwide, and he plays with a bunch of Kindergarten players.

"The UEFA rules allow him to do so but I can't respect it.

"You have to pay a bit more respect to the Champions League."

Arsene Wenger's Tantrum Is An Insult To His Club's History

Wenger's conduct unacceptable as an Arsenal manager

There used to be an old football joke in London about West Ham United.

It went along the lines of 'when the Christmas decorations go up, West Ham go down the league'.

It was coined in the days when the pitches got wet, the mud and the puddles upset the ball-players and the young graduates of the East London academy at Upton Park struggled against physically-superior opponents.

Something similar is threatening to become a tradition for Arsenal.

But there is a major difference.

The Hammers and their fans have a sense of humour and are self-effacing, too.

The Gunners, alas, under Arsene Wenger's leadership, currently look like a club where everyone takes themselves very seriously - and find cracking a joke as difficult as laughing at themselves if they miss the bus.

Certainly, Mark Hughes is no source of mirth for the Arsenal boss as Wednesday night's act of hauteur at Eastlands demonstrated, Wenger flaring his nostrils and almost cocking a snook at the Manchester City manager after the home side won 3-0 and in some style.

After two crushing defeats and three domestic fixtures without a goal, it was understandable, but unacceptable, that Wenger did not feel like shaking hands with Hughes.

The pair have had 'previous' and they clashed verbally during the first half.

Hughes' claim that it is a professional courtesy and a sign of respect that sportsmen shake hands at the end of their contest was snootily waved aside by the Alsatian.

"I think I have nothing to say," Wenger told a television interviewer. "I am free to shake hands with whom I want."

At a subsequent news briefing with the print media, he added, when pressed: "I have no professional courtesy."

Yes, it was drawled sarcastically, but the black humour, if intentional, was lost and the irony went without appreciation. For this was a more serious matter than the result of a cup-tie. Here, Wenger missed the bus and then, instead of grinning and shrugging it off with a typical football manager's cliche ("that's football" or "it wasn't our night"), or a shaft of dry wit - of which he is eminently capable - he stormed off to sulk in his own self-delusion.

For Wenger, it may have been just another in a series of 'Basil Fawlty' moments, but on a night when he fielded a team of youngsters and reserves to gain good experience, it was a terrible example of sporting behaviour.

He was not the only losing manager in the quarter-finals.

Indeed, he was in good company as all three of London's top clubs went out after trips to Lancashire - Tottenham Hotspur losing at Manchester United and Chelsea, on penalties, at Blackburn Rovers.

But he is the only one to have lost his composure and sense of humour.

In short, it proved beyond doubt that he is a bad loser. And that, for an Arsenal manager, is not acceptable conduct.

Every day and every week, hundreds of football managers finish up on the losing side, but shake hands with their conquerors. It is one of the oldest rules in the book of sport. Remember how Roger Federer reacted to his defeat by Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon in 2008? Or how Australia's cricketers handled losing the Ashes? Or the style in which Felipe Massa congratulated Lewis Hamilton on winning the F1 world title last year in Sao Paulo?

It is what the old Corinthian ideals are all about - the very ideals that are so entwined with the traditions of Arsenal; and so entwined with Wenger's passionate embracing of his club and its history. And his love of British life and the values that are wrought from Rudyard Kipling's treatment of those twin imposters, Triumph and Disaster...

So, on behalf of all Arsenal fans and all football-lovers, and the millions of supporters of the game who admire and respect Wenger's wonderful achievements in the English game, let us hope he has the grace to reflect on this, make a phone call to Manchester City and laugh at the folly of his ways.

It would be good if it was done swiftly. Arsenal need their manager to show them the way - the right way.

Crouch out to shoot down Gunners

Tottenham striker Peter Crouch wants to target any weaknesses in Arsenal's defence during the north London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger's side conceded late goals against AZ Alkmaar and West Ham before defeatingin Liverpool the Carling Cup this week, with the Barclays Premier League clash against Spurs next up.

"You saw at the start of the (West Ham) game when they went 2-0 up that they play great football, as they always do," Crouch said. "Hopefully we can keep that to a minimum and, as West Ham proved, you can come back and you can score goals against them. Hopefully we'll be tight at the back and get a good result."

Crouch is relishing Spurs' role as potential top-four gatecrashers, although he feels Arsenal are showing resilience to stay in the hunt after being written off by critics following the departures of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure to Mancheste City in the summer. and

"I think at the start of the season a lot of people wrote off Arsenal," Crouch told the Tottenham Journal. "They've got a young squad but they seem to have shown everyone that they can still play.

"But I think we've also surprised a few people by the way we've started. We're in the top four at the minute and we want to stay there as long as we possibly can."

Merida hoping for Arsenal extension

Arsenal Fran Merida wants to stay at the club and secure a new contract but admits he is unsure about his future while his current deal runs down.

The 19-year-old Spaniard has attracted interest from clubs such as Atletico Madrid and is a free agent at the end of the season, with his situation becoming a hot topic after his spectacular opener in the Carling Cup win over Liverpool Wednesday night.

Merida said: "At the moment I am talking to the club so I don't know what is going to happen. Hopefully everything is going to be all right but we are going to sit down and talk about it.

"I am really happy here and things are going okay. I am really happy in London too so we will see what happens."

Wenger is confident of securing the future of Merida, who has been billed as the new Cesc Fabregas.

The Gunners boss said: "We are close to signing a new contract."

My Weekend!

On Sunday morning, I woke up.
After I woke up, I eventually got out of bed to watch Kung Fu Panda on my computer.
Every Sunday, I drive to Polish school.
There, I start to do my work. I do Polish Maths and History.
Soon after Polish school, I came home, jumped into my bed and fell sound asleep.

My Weekend!

First, I got up to wish my dad a Happy Birthday.
Then, me and my mom went up to Dunnes Stores and I saw Aaron wearing a Burger King crown.
Soon, I went to get my dad a birthday present.
After, I went to Marks and Spencer's to get a cake. So my brother went to Limerick and when he was coming back he stopped near my cousin's house in Roscrea. Lastly, my dad went to collect him from school.

My Weekend!

We have been writing about our weekends using some really good openers. Openers are words that are used at the start of each sentence. Instead of using 'then', 'I' and 'my' to start each sentence, we have begun to use words such as 'first', 'soon', ;next', 'after', 'so', 'last' and 'eventually'.

Eduardo seals Arsenal comeback in Liege

The Croatian, who had a two-game ban for diving overturned on Monday, kneed in the winner for the Gunners who trailed 2-0 after five minutes.
Nicklas Bendtner and Thomas Vermaelen also scored.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: "It is always inevitable with Eduardo. "He is a guy who can always turn up on crosses because he has that anticipation. "He gave the ball away for their first goal and we were caught cold by a team who were really ready and started out of the blocks at full power. "Standard played like a cup final tonight with full commitment. "When you go 2-0 down after five minutes, you know you have a big task in front of you. "We fought back with a goal just before half-time and then, in the second half, the game dropped a bit in physical intensity.

"When they got tired, we got set-pieces and took advantage of them.
"We had a lot of players missing tonight through injury so this win shows the strength of our squad and the spirit we have."

The result and the way it was achieved was a massive boost for Arsenal, who had lost their previous two games against Manchester United and City.

Wenger added: "When you are at a big club, you cannot afford to have too many defeats on the trot."

The Arsenal boss claimed the decision to award an early penalty when William Gallas brought down Milan Jovanovic was harsh.

Yet the Belgians moaned that the Gunners' leveller should have been ruled out as Alex Song seemed to handle the ball on to defender Vermaelen, who tapped home from close range.

Wenger added: "The penalty looked harsh but I have not seen it again.
"As for our equaliser, it was impossible to see from the bench."

Liege boss Laszlo Boloni blasted: "They had good help from the referee. Two players were offside and there was also a clear handball from Song."

Adebawhore ban and Eduardo overturn

At last there is a little more optimism amidst the last couple of weeks dissapointments. Firstly, the classless adewhore's double charge from the F.A for both Violent and improper conduct (understatement) will definitely bring him some match ban's namely the Manchester derby at the weekend. City will surely be hurt by their numerous losses in attack with Robinho, Tevez and now Adewhore's exclusion will leave them with just bellamy and santa cruz as viable options to take on a fired up utd fresh from their comeback at spurs and looking for revenge. I don't want to waste anymore time talking about city or adewhore so on to some other good news.
Uefa have today overturned Eduardo's 2 match ban for diving and I must admit it was a surprise to me that they did considering it looked like He was being made an example of but hey, i'm not complaining. I hope that the start to the season is just a blip on the radar and the boys will be back to winning starting tomorrow night against Liege who we should take out our recent frustrations on with a big win!

Rob rage over Manu stamp

FURIOUS Robin Van Persie has let rip at Emmanuel Adebayor, raging: You set out to hurt me on purpose.

The bloodied ace reckons he was lucky not to have been BLINDED during Man City's fiery clash with the Gunners.

Van Persie was left clutching his face after Adebayor lashed out during City's thrilling 4-2 win.

And he laid into to his former team-mate for deliberately smashing his face.
He fumed: "I am sad and disappointed by my former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor's mindless and malicious stamp on me during today's match.

"We are both professional footballers and I know that the game is physical, I too have made hard and sometimes mis-timed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent. He set out to hurt me today.

"I knew he was aiming for a collision because he changed the angle of his body to allow contact to be made.

"He moved backwards when his natural momentum would have taken him forward. I find that deeply disrespectful. He has shown a real lack of class today, to me and the fans.

"I do feel lucky that I have not suffered a greater injury. The contact was only centimetres from my eye."

Arsenal linked with "Super Mario" Balotelli VIDEO

The summer transfer window is now just a memory but we have already been linked with some potential replacements for the future namely Inter's Balotelli. Known in Milan as "Super Mario" the italian international has ben singled out by Wenger as a class act. Although the next transfer window is a while away, Balotelli's many run-ins with boss Jose Mourinho has seen him as a possible departure from the San siro.
I must admit I haven't seen alot of him but what I have seen is pretty impressive and he looks as if he could be another diamond in the rough that Wenger could mould into a Top player. His main problems have been his disciplinary record but I seem to remember Van Persie had the similar problems but has since put them behind him. Anyway Have a look for yourself and see what you think?

Bendtner aims to grow with Gunners

Nicklas Bendtner is determined to go on to bigger and better things with Arsenal after committing his long-term future to the Gunners.

The 21-year-old striker, along with young Brazilian midfielder Denilson, has agreed a new deal at the Emirates Stadium club."It means a lot that I can commit my future to Arsenal because I have a great affection for this club," he said.

Manager Arsene Wenger has long championed the potential of his young side, and Wednesday's announcement follows agreements to secure the continued services of Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie as well as fellow youngsters Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs.

The Gunners may have added only Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen to the squad over the summer, while selling Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor to Manchester City, but still impressed during the opening games of the new campaign - the only loss a narrow 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Following the departure of Adebayor, Bendtner has looked to cement himself in Wenger's attacking plans.

Bendtner chalked up some 50 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 15 goals. The 6ft 3in frontman is determined to continue his progression.

"I've been here for five years now, and my development both on and off the pitch as a player and person is thanks to Arsene Wenger and the team here," he added.
"We've got a group of players that is capable of achieving great success, and I am really excited to be a part of it."

The Transfer Window is now SHUT

After two months, the transfer window has today slammed shut. What a transfer window, eh?

Obviously the big spenders in the Premier League were Manchester City, spending over £115 million. Mark Hughes was certainly given to freedom to spend money left, right and centre, building almost a fantasy football team in the process.

It seems the majority of football news in Europe has surrounded Real Madrid this summer. The Spanish giants have spent nearly a quarter of a billion pounds on the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Kaka. Many football betting experts believe Real may be the team to beat in the Champions League this season and personally, I agree with them.

Elsewhere in the transfer window, Tottenham completed a transfer deadline day deal, bringing Portsmouth midfieder Niko Kranjcar to Fratton Park. Kranjcar became the second Portsmouth player to join Harry Redknapp at Spurs, following the arrival of Peter Crouch earlier this summer.

No more signings! Shame on you Wenger! and UEFA

I'm sure I echo the sentiments of the majority of Arsenal fan's who are severely dissapointed at Arsene Wenger's lack of backbone when it comes to yet another transfer window display. The bitter pill to swallow is not just that we didn't sign anyone but also that we seemed not even close to doing so. I could be far more understanding if we were interested in a player and tried to sign him but it fell through or couldn't be agreed etc but we have just limped through this window with only Vermaelen at £10m (though he's good). I noticed that even the bottom clubs have spent near that without a wink and we still remain bloody scrooges.

Wenger has now laid all his cards on the table and by not signing anyone could seal his fate come the end of the season. The fact that he believes we have enough to compete this season with a currently weakened side and YET AGAIN lack of experience makes me worried he has lost it. Don't get me wrong I'm not expecting a transfer spree but our injury record alone not only the African Cup of Nations wold be a smart move to keep the squad fuller in case of emergency. You just have to look at Tottenham's activity to show you our lack of ambition. Why didn't we have a punt on Niko Kranjcar, he is a solid experienced midfielder and would have been a cheap yet beneficial addition to the squad.

Arsene Wenger has no excuse if we fail to deliver this season and he has had on many occasions, the option to improve or squad but Time and time again has failed. I am very, very, dissapointed with the club and yet again we have shown ourselves to be weaker in the eyes of our rivals. Thanks a fucking bunch Arsene you prat, I will no longer believe you when you say you are willing to spend money on this club you have let down your fans and you're club Shame on you, If we fail TO deliver this season I'm afraid to say I want WENGER OUT and he will have no one to blame but HIMSELF!

On another angry point, Eduardo has officially been charged with a 2 match European ban despite an apparent written defence from the club. The charge is ridiculous and has opened up a black hole of paperwork that can never be filled. I hope UEFA is happy that they've mad all this work for themselves. With this charge standing I expect to see more players charged for 2 matches I.e. the usual suspects Drogba, Rooney etc as they have the highest diving pedigree in the premiership.

Chief referee 'will apologise to Wenger'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to receive an apology from Premier League referees chief Keith Hackett following his dismissal in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan has spoken to Hackett about the Old Trafford incident which saw Wenger sent to the stands by referee Mike Dean on the advice of fourth official Lee Probert.

And he has been told that Wenger will receive an apology from the Premier Game Match Officials Board which appoints officials to top-flight games in
England.

The Gunners boss caught Probert's attention when he kicked an empty water bottle down the touchline following a disallowed goal for Arsenal in the final minutes.
On the decision to penalise Wenger, Bevan said: "Although correct in 'law', it was completely out of context in the game and it was followed by the nonsense which followed over where Arsene Wenger should sit. "I've spoken to Keith Hackett and he fully recognises the situation was an error and an apology will follow to Arsene Wenger. "Lee Probert totally failed to manage the situation and created a needless pressure point taking the focus away from the pitch in a big event with only a minute to go."

Arsenal vs Man Utd Full time report

Both teams lined up as they were at the start of the second half and with just as much energy. We had a very early chance to put it 2-0 with Ben foster stopping a van persie shot just in front of the goal with an instinctive save. We came out probably the better of the two teams after the break with all the team looking for the ball and not afraid to get forward.

Despite Arsenal's pressure it was nited that were to get the next goal.
The game picked up on the 57th minute when Rooney was taken down by Almunia's outstretched arms and subsequently put away the penalty to make it 1-1.

Arsenal almost went ahead again 5 mins later with Van persie hitting the bar from a well shot free kick outside the box. Pain was to follow almost instantly with Diaby when he poorly tried to clear a Giggs pass which he put past Almunia for an own goal what a killer blow.

The game definitley changed with the 3rd goal and Utd looked to gain a stronger grip in the game as the match went on. Wenger did try and change things with the introdction of Bendtner on the 71st minte but Arsenal still struggled to get the equaliser. 8 minutes on Eduardo was introduced and it looked to be Wenger's last attacking option to change the game.

We had few chances after that and we looked to have fizzled out in the last mintes. The last remaining hope was the 5 minutes extra time that was added. Berbatov was the first player to get a chance in extra time but only managed to skew his shot wide of the post to Arsenal's relief. Nani had another on the 94th but missed his second shot from Almunia's first save. Arsene Wenger was dancing on the touchline when he thought van persie had equalised but was deemed offside due to gallas' positioning.

So gutted! we didn't deserve to lose.

Arsenal v Man utd Half time update

Today is our first "Real" test of the season and I am surprisingly confident ahead of our trip to old trafford.

I know of course, I am bias to my beloved Gooners but I believe our recent performances and new found hunger this season may win the day. Of course I am not foolish enough to be writing utd off but I believe their losses of Tevez and Ronaldo could be the key to us overcoming the red devils this season. Rooney has now come to the fold even more and will have to fill the void left by the summer departures in Manchester. There is no denying Rooney is a class act so taming him today is crucial if we are to get a victory.
There was no Cesc Fabregas today bt apart from that we had our first team squad available.

Manuel Almunia
Bacary Sagna
William Gallas
Thomas Vermaelen
Gael Clichy
Denilson
Alex Song
Andrey Arshavin
Abou Diaby
Emmanuel Eboue
Robin Van Persie

Subs: Eduardo
Mikael Silvestre
Aaron Ramsey
Jack Wilshere
Kieran Gibbs
Nicklas Bendtner
Vito Mannone

Both teams started like for like with Fergie deciding to parallel Wengers decision of a 3 man midfield. The start was a good one with both teams setting a good pace in the opening minutes. Rooney as expected looked sprightly along with Arshavin and Eboue who looked to get forward early on. Both teams threatened but didn't produce a good chance on goal and each goalkeeper had little to do until the 9th minute. Rooney flighted a good pass to fletcher in the box but he blazed high from a very good opportunity.

United then produced a passage of possession which did at moments look to threaten the back four but Gallas, vermaelen and Clichy all hampered multiple Utd efforts to et the lead. The next real chance for the gunners came on the 24th minute when Robin van persie had the time to setup a left footed shot in the box but was deflected for a corner. From that corner another chance arose with Arshavin going close to side footing a shot through a wall of utd players in the top corner but just skewed it narrowly over.

The game did start to become littered with misplayed passes on both sides and as a result both sides looked to break and catch the other off guard but the score looked to remain deadlocked until till the second half. How wrong I was because on the 39th minute Arshain picked up a loose ball and rifled a shot outside the box which Ben foster could only deflect in the roof of the net, and what a goal it was!

Manchester united were determined not to go in behind and they had a good chance to equalise with vidic in the congested box but his chance was rapidly cleared away. One player of special mention has to be William Gallas who was fantastic in the first 45mins not putting a foot wrong and taking Rooney out of the game. We go in 1-0 at half time and well deserved.

Eduardo a diver, i don't think so check out these real divers-VIDEO

Arsene Wenger has called Eduardo's charge of cheating a match official a disgrace and a witchhunt. I can't help but agree with him, How many times have we and everyone else been penalised in a game by a Ronaldo flying lesson or a bad drobga acting lesson? Well it looks like we are being singled out for punishment and personally I blame Michel Platini for the problem. He really annoys me because he has a grudge against all english teams. He loves to criticise and punish Premiership teams but turns a blind eye to the likes of Real Madrid. Anyway Here you can see video evidence that our premiership rivals are not innocent and have got away without punishment on many many occassions yet we get singled out?

Drogba:

Ronaldo:

Gerrard:

Sean Davis:

As you can see, our rivals are more than guilty of their share of dives and simulations and I'm still mystified because Eduardo's "Deliberate" dive is one of the least extravagant on show.

Fabregas '50-50' for United clash

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas only has a 50-50 chance of playing against champions Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday because of a hamstring injury.

The Spaniard missed Arsenal's Champions League playoff victory over Celtic on Wednesday after injuring himself in the defeat of Portsmouth last weekend. "He had a training session today that was quite positive," Arsenal manager Wenger, whose side have scored 10 goals in two league matches, told Arsenal's website. "He will have a definite test tomorrow where we will decide if we include him in the squad or not. Today I would say it is a real 50-50. Yesterday it I would say it was 60-40 against but he looked positive today."

Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky are also unlikely to play in the Old Trafford clash, the first meeting between any of the established big four sides this season.
